Tattoo Aftercare Guide
Proper aftercare is critical to how your tattoo heals and looks long-term. Follow these instructions carefully for the best results.
Day 1
Immediately After
- Leave the bandage on for 2-4 hours (or as directed by your artist)
- Wash your hands thoroughly before touching the tattoo
- Gently remove the bandage and wash with lukewarm water and fragrance-free soap
- Pat dry with a clean paper towel — never rub
- Apply a thin layer of recommended aftercare ointment
- Do not re-bandage unless directed
Days 2-3
Initial Healing
- Wash 2-3 times daily with fragrance-free soap
- Apply thin layers of unscented moisturizer or aftercare balm
- Expect some redness, swelling, and oozing — this is normal
- The tattoo may feel warm or tender
- Wear loose, clean clothing over the area
- Sleep on clean sheets — avoid sleeping directly on the tattoo
Days 4-7
Peeling Phase
- Light peeling and flaking is completely normal
- DO NOT pick, scratch, or pull at peeling skin
- Continue washing gently and moisturizing
- Itching is common — tap or slap lightly instead of scratching
- The tattoo may look cloudy or dull during this phase — this is temporary
- Keep the area moisturized to reduce itching
Weeks 2-3
Surface Healing
- Most surface peeling should be complete
- Continue moisturizing daily
- The tattoo may still look slightly hazy — full clarity returns over the next few weeks
- You can resume light exercise but avoid friction on the tattoo
- Avoid pools, hot tubs, and prolonged water submersion
- Apply sunscreen (SPF 30+) if the tattoo will be exposed to sunlight
Weeks 4+
Full Healing
- Deep layers of skin finish healing around 2-3 months
- Colors will appear brighter and lines sharper as healing completes
- Always apply sunscreen to protect your tattoo from UV fading
- Keep the area moisturized for long-term vibrancy
- If you notice any areas that need touch-up, contact us
